    2. Migration policy: The last GP conference set up a committee from Policy committee and the Population/migration working group which should be reporting in June. Concerns were expressed over some items in the working documents produced so far eg; a proposal to limit child benefit as a means of attempting to control family size. The European GP document,”Europe is a Continent of migration” was more progressive; however GPEW reps had been mandated to vote against this at the recent Ljubljana conference. Both GP working Group and EGP documents to be circulated.
    3. A GP conference fringe on migration with Jean Lambert, Anita Ceravolo (Unite) and a speaker from’ No Borders' was discussed.

"Gptu/Gleft/London Federation of Green parties congratulates the Durban dockers of the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu), and the police trade union (POPCRU) members who supported them for turning away the Chinese arms shipment to Zimbabwe where it might be used to attack trades unionists and others engaged in the struggle for democratic rights in Zimbabwe. We note that such action would be illegal if taken by British Trades unionists and call for a restoration of the rights of British trades unionists to take solidarity action with other groups nationally and internationally"

  11. Email correspondence re NUT/UCU/PCS: GPTU website had recently missed some important items, it was noted that these (NUT/UCU/PCS & abolition of 10% tax band) also omitted from GP website, felt that this still showed tendency for GP to ignore social and/or tu issues.
  12. Tolpuddle Possiblity of GPTU presence if Mark Douglas was able to get a stall there.
  13. Next meeting 14 May 6.30 National theatre 1st floor
  14. ADDENDUM: Report from Sue Tibbles

I attended SERTUC Regional Council on Saturday and was re-elected to SERTUC Executive Committee as a Trades Council delegate, so I hope to continue taking GP views and info there whenever possible.

Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom is holding a meeting in London which I am aiming to attend on Weds 28 May in pm, at NUJ HQ I think, with key guest speakers on ways forward with the media ownership issue. If it is an open meeting, I will send further info to GP-TU and Green Left. CPBF is just deciding on the structure of the meeting at present.

Also the Lewes Festival which takes in the Robert Tressell events this time I believe is having a trade union and SERTUC input as Laurie Heselden, Policy Officer for SERTUC has been involved with the planning. I aim to go to these events if possible, and I am also going to Marxism again this year in July, if any GP folk want to meet up at these.

I have suggested to CPBF that they might like to book a fringe mtg at GP Autumn Conf through me, so that we can have a wider panel discussion on things such as media ownership or other stuff which would be of relevance to the conference and the wider public. As it is in London, I think that we can get some key speakers along at very little cost. They might have their own stall as well as Barry White, their sec. who lives in Walthamstow, could be available for selling books such as Nick Jones' and Tim Gopsill's output and other relevant items so very much worth their while.
